Kitahara Named Division III ECAC Women’s Rookie Golfer of the Month

(DANBURY, Conn.) – Freshman Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team was named Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Rookie Golfer of the Month following her play during the Tartans' spring trip south.

In Carnegie Mellon's inaugural season of women's golf, Kitahara earned All-University Athletic Association (UAA) first-team honors with a fifth-place showing at the UAA Championships March 8-9.  The freshman carded a 161 at the two-day event at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida.  Less than a week later, Kitahara fired a three-round score of 242 at the 2015 Jekyll Island Collegiate at the 5,801-yard, par-72 Indian Mounds Golf Club on Jekyll Island.

Kitahara averaged an 80.6 in the five rounds during the month and currently has an average of 80.3 through 11 rounds this year with six top 10 finishes.

The Tartans begin play today at the 36-hole Purple and White Invitational held at Royal American Links in Galena, Ohio and New Albany Links in New Albany, Ohio.  The two-day event is hosted by Capital University.
