Bio
Lauren Kuntz joined the Carnegie Mellon University track and field program in the fall of 2024 as an assistant coach, focusing on the pole vault.
Kuntz is a 2013 graduate of MIT where she studied Physics and Mechanical Engineering and was a three-time Division III All-American in pole vault and a two-time Academic All-American. She served as MIT’s team captain from 2011-13 and was recognized as the NEWMAC Woman of the Year in 2013. Kuntz also received MIT's Malcolm G. Kispert Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in both 2012 and 2013, as well as the NCAA Elite 89 Award for indoor track and field in 2012.
Following her time at MIT, Kuntz continued her involvement in track and field as a volunteer pole vault coach at Harvard University from 2013 to 2017, while pursuing her PhD in Climate Science which she earned in 2018. During her time at Harvard, she also taught and mentored undergraduate students serving as both a Teaching Fellow and Freshman Proctor.
Kuntz has continued to train and compete in athletics, and is the current world record holder in the Icosathlon (double decathlon) and indoor Tetradecathlon (double heptathlon) - ultra combined events in track and field.
Off the track, Kuntz works as Co-Founder and CEO of Gaiascope, an energy start-up company which helps renewable energy assets manage risk and optimize revenue.
