Tartans to Hold Second Annual Cindy Lackner Memorial Football Game
The Carnegie Mellon University football team is dedicating itself to raising funds for breast cancer research. In honor of Cindy Lackner, the late wife of head football coach Rich Lackner, the Tartans have announced that this weekend's Homecoming Game will be the "Second Annual Cindy Lackner Memorial Football Game." Spearheading the event are seniors Ryan Jok and Eric Rolfes.
Cindy Lackner passed away in August of 2012 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. On Saturday and the rest of 2013, Carnegie Mellon football players will be wearing pink ribbons on their helmets with Cindy's initials on them. At Saturday's game against Geneva, the team will be accepting contributions at the gate, as well as offering raffles, the sale of luminary bags and other small items to raise funds in Cindy's memory.
Throughout the week, members of the Carnegie Mellon Football Team will raise awareness on campus regarding breast cancer research and collect donations targeted for the University of Pittsburgh Women's Cancer Research Fund.
"The game is being played in remembrance of Mrs. Lackner's courageous fight while raising awareness and funds for a great cause," said Rolfes.
The team has already begun the fundraising efforts with a large order of pink socks, shoelaces and arm bands that will be worn on Saturday. The team has asked fans to come cheer them on, wear pink and continue to support Carnegie Mellon Football's fight against breast cancer.
