Amy Buxbaum (H&SS '92) Named President of Tartan Athletics Club Board of Directors
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Former Carnegie Mellon women’s
basketball standout Amy Buxbaum (H&SS ’92) was named
president of the inaugural Tartan Athletics Club Board of
Directors. Buxbaum will serve a two-year term leading the Tartan
Athletics Club. Former golfer Don Michel (CIT ’90) was chosen
as the Board’s president-elect and former football player
Rick Creech (E ’84) was selected as past-president. Buxbaum,
Michel and Creech will make up the Board’s Executive
Committee.
Prior to the football team’s Homecoming Game against Denison
on October 6, the Tartan Athletics Club Board of Directors met to
discuss Carnegie Mellon Athletics. For the past two years, the
Board has served in an advisory capacity to the athletics
department under the name Athletics Advisory Council. The group
felt strongly that enhanced engagement with friends of Carnegie
Mellon Athletics was integral for the success of the athletics
program and helped form the Tartan Athletics Club. The group met
for the first time as the Tartan Athletics Club Board of Directors
during Celidh weekend.
“Amy, Don and Rick will provide excellent guidance for the
Tartan Athletics Club and the Board of Directors,” Bassett
said. “It is an exciting time for Carnegie Mellon Athletics
and we are thrilled to have them take a leadership role on
important initiatives that relate to engagement, fundraising and
communication.”
The Board participated in an athletics alumni reception during the
Homecoming Football Game. Carnegie Mellon President Jared Cohon and
Vice President for Campus Affairs Michael Murphy joined the Board
of Directors in cheering on the Tartans, as the football program
defeated Denison, 41-21.
