#17 Tartans Sweep Match Against #33 Washington & Lee, Now 10-0 Overall

(CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va.) – The 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team faced the 33rd-ranked Washington and Lee University on Sunday. March 22. The Tartans won with a score of 7-0, putting them at 10-0 for the season. Washington and Lee is now at 4-9.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans were victorious in two out of three doubles matches. Graduate student Diogo Tinoco and sophomore Brendan Hendrata won first doubles, 6-4, while senior Akshay Joshi and freshman Ian Miller won second doubles, 6-4.
  • Miller was the first to finish singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth singles.
  • Tinoco came out on top in second singles, 6-3, 6-0.
  • Sophomore Takeshi Koey secured the match victory by winning third singles, 6-3, 6-1.
  • Freshman Michael Larionov finished strong in sixth singles 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8).
  • Sophomore Alex Feies won first doubles 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).
  • Hendrata closed the match at fourth singles by winning, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (13-11).
