#17 Tartans Take Down #28 NC Wesleyan, 5-2

(CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.) - The 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team traveled south to play 28th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 21 at Boar's Head Resort in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Tartans won for the ninth straight match by with a 5-2 score to advance to 9-0 for the season.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans won all three doubles matches with the third pair of sophomores Alex Feies and Daniel Kong finishing first by a 6-1 score. The number one pair of graduate student Diogo Tinoco and sophomore Brendan Hendrata also won by a 6-1 score to secure the doubles point.
  • The Tartans took a 2-0 lead when sophomore Takeshi Koey won 6-0, 6-2 at third singles.
  • Feies then won 7-5, 6-1 at first singles for a 3-0 advantage with freshman Michael Larionov earning the match point at sixth singles with a come-from-behind win, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
  • The other victory for the Tartans was by Tinoco at second singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
