ITA Honors Men’s Tennis as All-Academic Team; 10 Named Scholar Athletes
(GILBERT, Ariz.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was honored for the 17th straight season and 24th time in the last 25 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, 10 players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above during the last academic year. The Tartans achieved a cumulative average of 3.75 for the year.
In addition to the team honor, graduate student Chaitanya Irkar, senior Akshay Joshi, juniors Theodore Gershon, Raghav Jangbahadur and Daniel Kong, sophomores Braden Chavez, Alex Feies, Brendan Hendrata and Will Secord along with freshman Rian Merchant were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes.
In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a player must have an academic year GPA of at least 3.50 and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
