Feies Named UAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Year; Five Others Earn All-UAA
(PITTSBURGH Pa.) – Sophomore Alex Feies has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Player of the Year and is joined on the All-Association team by five others. The Carnegie Mellon University first singles and doubles player becomes the second player in school history to earn the top award, as Daniel Levine received the honor in 2018.
Feies earned first-team honors at first singles and was joined by senior Brendan Hendrata on a spot on the top team for first doubles. Junior Sophomore Raghav Jangbahadur and freshman Ian Miller earned second team accolades in singles play. Jangbahadur at second singles and Miller at five singles. Miller and senior Akshay Joshi paired at second doubles and were also honored on the second team. Junior Daniel Kong earned honorable mention accolades at six singles.
Feies compiled a singles record of 21-6 with a 15-3 mark in dual match play. He's already secured his second All-America honor by winning his first-round match at the ITA Cup in October. During UAA Championship play, Feies won all two of his first singles matches and was leading in the third when play was stopped.
Hendrata and Feies finished the regular season with a 4-1 doubles record including a 2-1 mark in UAA Championship play. The pair joined together in the middle of April and won four straight matches at the top spot with all the victories coming over ranked opponents, including two of the top pair from sixth-ranked Case Western Reserve University.
Jangbahadur has an 8-5 record in singles and went 1-1 at UAAs. Miller ended his first regular season campaign with a 15-9 mark in singles play, as all three of his matches went unfinished during UAA Championship play. Joshi and Miller have an 8-2 record at second doubles while Kong stands at 6-4 in singles with one of his victories coming over 16th-ranked Emory University in straight sets.
