#17 Tartans Remain Unbeaten After 4-3 Win Over #13 Kenyon
(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon men's tennis team, ranked 17th, squared off against 13th-ranked Kenyon College on Thursday afternoon in Orlando, Florida. Carnegie Mellon defeated Kenyon 4-3 as the Tartans move to 7-0 on the season while the Owls are now 9-1.
Inside the Results
- The Tartans top tandem of graduate student Diogo Tinoco and sophomore Brendan Hendrata claimed a 6-1 win and then the Cardinal and Gray third doubles pair of sophomores Alex Feies and Takeshi Koey won 6-3 to secure the doubles team point.
- Feies then gave the Tartans a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top spot in singles play.
- Kenyon knotted the score at 2-all with wins at three and two singles.
- Freshman Ian Miller won a straight set match at five singles by the scores of 6-3, 7-5 to put the Tartans back ahead at 3-2.
- The Owls once again tied the score, claiming a point at four singles to leave the deciding point of the match to six singles.
- Freshman Michael Larionov won the first set 6-3 with Kenyon taking the second 6-3 to force a third. In the third set, Larionov trailed 4-2 before winning four straight games to seal the Tartans victory.
