Tartans Host CMU Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted Duquesne University, Edinboro University and Saint Francis University for the CMU Invite on Friday, September 26 through Sunday, September 28.

How It Happened

• On Friday, the Tartans faced Saint Francis. The Tartans won two out of four of their doubles matches and four out of eight in singles play.
• Doubles pair of sophomore Alex Feies and graduate student Diogo Tinoco won 6-2, and the duo of senior Akshay Joshi and junior Theodore Gershon won 6-4.
• Tinoco, freshman Ian Miller, sophomore Will Secord, and freshman Rian Merchant each won their singles matches in two sets.
• On Saturday, the Tartans went against players from Edinboro, falling in all three doubles matches, but winning three out of six singles matches.
• Junior Daniel Kong won 6-4, sophomore Takeshi Koey won 7-5, 6-4, and graduate student Chaitanya Irkar won 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.
• On Sunday, the Tartans competed against Duquesne. The Tartans were victorious in two of four doubles and three of eight singles.
• Joshi and Koey won 7-6 (5), while Kong and Merchant won 6-3.
• Kong, Secord, and Irkar came through with singles wins.
