#14 Tartans Finish Weekend In Virginia with 4-3 Win

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team faced the 29th-ranked University of Mary Washington Eagles on Sunday, March 29. The Tartans defeated the Eagles 4-3. This puts the Tartans at 12-3 overall and the Eagles at 6-4.

Inside the Results

  • The Eagles earned the first point of the match, winning two of three doubles matches. Sophomore Rachel Li and sophomore Shelly Zinchenko won third doubles, 6-4.
  • Freshman Jane Wong had to retire her first singles match giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Kotistha Modak earned the Tartans first point with her win at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-4.
  • Freshman Ika Kanumuri then tied the match at 2-2 with her win at third singles, 7-5, 6-3.
  • Sophomore Victoria Gazda finished strong in sixth singles, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Tartans a 3-2 lead.
  • Senior Divya Venkatarama secured the match win at fifth singles with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 victory.
