#13 Tartans Make It Nine Straight With a 5-2 Win Over #16 Kenyon
(ORLANDO, Fl.) – The Carnegie Mellon women's tennis team, ranked 13th nationally, squared off against 16th-ranked Kenyon College on Wednesday morning in Orlando, Florida. The Tartans came away with a 5-2 victory to win their ninth straight and improve to 9-0 in dual play while Kenyon is now 4-2.
Inside the Results
- The Tartans swept doubles with sophomore Rachel Li and sophomore Shelly Zinchenko claiming the first win at third doubles, 6-2. The Tartans number two double tandem of sophomore Ancele Dolensek and senior Divya Venkatarama then collected a 6-4 win to secure the team point. Freshman Ika Kanumuri and sophomore Kotistha Modak, the Cardinal and Gray top duo, ended doubles play with a 6-2 victory.
- Sophomore Victoria Gazda gave the Tartans a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win at six singles.
- Kenyon then claimed a point at one singles before the Tartans won the next three singles points in three set matches.
- Freshman Jane Wong won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 at third singles and then Kanumuri won 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to seal the victory for Carnegie Mellon.
- Zinchenko also won at second singles by the scores of 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4).
