Tartans Stopped by Brandeis at Home

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team dropped an 81-66 decision to visiting Brandeis University on Friday, February 6 in the Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics. The Tartans are now 10-8 overall and 2-5 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Judges are 13-6 and 6-2.

How it Happened

  • There were six lead changes with the Tartans leading by one point three different times in the first half.
  • The Tartans hit three of their four first half three-pointers in the first seven minutes of the game with the third one coming off the fingers of senior Buckley DeJardin that gave the Tartans a 16-15 advantage.
  • After graduate student Sam Adusei tied the score at 21-all with 9:47 to go in the first half, the Judges went on a 12-4 run to lead by eight with six minutes before the break.
  • That eight-point advantage grew to 16 points before sophomore Evan Mirazimi ended the scoring for the period with a triple to make the score 45-32.
  • Brandeis' Elias Rodl hit five first half three-pointers and led all players with 21 points.
  • The Judges continued to shoot well in the second frame, making its first three shots to lead by 18 points. 
  • The Tartans were unable to match the Judges, shooting just 38.2% from the floor in the second period, as the away team went on for the win.

Tartan Stats

  • Mirazimi and Adusei each tallied 16 points.
  • Junior Isaac Higgs finished with 15 points and graduate student Nikola Dimitrijevic finished with 10 points.
  • Higgs was the leading rebounder with seven.

Judge Stats

  • Rodl finished with 33 points on 7-of-11 shooting from long range.
  • Alex Zakheim had 20 points and DJ Courtney had 10 points.
  • Rodl also led with nine rebounds while Zakheim had eight assists.
