Five Tartans Score in Double Figures in 82-64 Win Over Chatham

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team hosted Chatham University on Sunday afternoon for its home opener of the 2025-2026 season. The Tartans defeated the Cougars 82-64 to improve to 2-0 overall.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans opened the game scoring the first four points over a two-minute span by layups from graduate student Sam Adusei and sophomore Evan Mirazimi.
  • After two Chatham layups, the Tartans went on a 13-1 run and led 17-5 at the 12-minute mark of the first half.
  • After graduate student Nolan Casey stole the ball from Chatham's Sam Norfleet IV, the Tartans went up 20 points, 35-15 with six minutes left in the half following a fastbreak layup by junior Isaac Higgs.
  • The Tartans maintained control of the rest of the half and led by as many as 23 points on four different occasions before going into the locker room with 46-28 lead.
  • Chatham opened the second half on a 7-2 run and pulled the score to 48-35, but the Tartans answered, scoring eight of the next ten points and led 56-36 five minutes into the half.
  • The Tartans then went on a 9-0 run to take their biggest lead in the game at 70-40 halfway through the second before going on for the 82-64 victory.

  • The Tartans ended the game shooting 50% (34-68) from the field and converted 25% (6-24) from behind the arc.
  • Carnegie scored 13 second chance points compared to Chatham's three.
  • For the secodn straight game, five Tartans scored in double figures with Higgs and Mirazimi leading the way with 16 points apiece. It was the second straight game that Mirazimi recorded a career high.
  • Sophomore Ian Brown scored a career-best 11 points off the bench while Adusei also finished with 11 and graduate student Nikola Dimitrijevic ended with 10.
  • Mirazimi grabbed a career-best eight rebounds while Adusei also collected eight to lead the Tartans.

Cougar Stats

  • Chatham shot 32.9% (23-70) from the field and converted 23.3% (7-20) from behind the arc.
  • Jake Tenberge led the offense with 16 points while Diaun Pinkett had 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
