#8 Tartans Beat #14 Spartans, 6-1

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team traveled to compete against the 14th-ranked Case Western Reserve University Spartans on Sunday, April 12. After the Spartans took the first point in the doubles round, the Tartans took control and were victorious with a sweep of singles for a 6-1 score. This puts the Tartans at 14-4 overall and the Spartans at 9-5.

Inside the Results

  • The Spartans won the first point of the match, winning first and second doubles. Sophomore Victoria Gazda and sophomore Shelly Zinchenko won third doubles, 6-3.
  • The Tartans won all six matches of the singles round.
  • Zinchenko came out on top in third singles, 6-2, 6-1, to start the scoring for the Tartans.
  • Sophomore Ancele Dolensek then won sixth singles, 6-2, 6-0.
  • Senior Divya Venkatarama was victorious at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-3, and now has a four-match winning streak.
  • Freshman Ika Kanumuri sealed the match point at first singles with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 score.
  • Freshman Jane Wong then won at second singles, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
  • Gazda won the final point at fifth singles, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-0).
