#13 Tartans Sweep First Two Matches in Florida
(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon women's tennis team traveled to Florida to compete against the 25th-ranked Christopher Newport University and NAIA Ave Maria University on Monday. The Tartans swept both and are now 8-0 overall.
Inside the Results Against Christopher Newport
- The Tartans won all three double parings by the scores of 6-2: freshman Ika Kanumuri and sophomore Kotistha Modak in first doubles, sophomore Ancele Dolensek and senior Divya Venkatarama in second doubles, and sophomore Rachel Li and sophomore Shelly Zinchenko in third doubles.
- Freshman Jane Wong went 6-2, 6-1 in third singles to claim the first point of singles play.
- Modak then won first singles 6-3, 6-2.
- Dolensek sealed the Tartans victory for the second straight match with a 7-5, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
- Other wins came from Zinchenko at second singles, Venkatarama in the four spot and Gadza at fifth singles.
Inside the Results Against Ave Maria
- The pair of Kanumuri and Dolensek won first doubles 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker by the score of 20-18. Junior Ainika Hou and Li were also victorious at second doubles 6-1.
- The Tartans won the first point in singles with a walkover win at six singles.
- Li came out on top in fifth singles 6-1, 6-2 to give the Tartans a 3-0 advantage.
- Kanumuri then won 6-1, 6-2 at the top spot to secure the win for the Cardinal and Gray.
- Other wins against Ave Maria were senior Manuela Van Cotthem's at second singles, Allison Hsieh at three and Joshi in the four spot.

The Tartans will continue play in Florida March 3 at 2:30 p.m. against the 28th ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
