#13 Tartans Stay Undefeated with 4-3 Victory Against #11 Trinity
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team battled 11th-ranked Trinity (Texas) University in a home match to a 4-3 victory that came down to the final singles match. The Tartans are now 6-0 for the season while the Tigers fall to 2-1.
Inside the Results
- Trinity took the doubles point with wins at first and third doubles before the Tartans number two pair of sophomore Kotistha Modak and sophomore Rachel Li won 7-5.
- Modak tied the score at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles.
- Trinity took a 3-1 lead with wins at second and fourth singles.
- Sophomore Jane Wong then won, 6-4, 6-2, at third singles to make it 3-2.
- As the teams were playing on four courts, fifth and sixth singles started after the first two singles matches were complete.
- Sophomore Victoria Gazda finished fifth singles with a victory after a 7-6, 6-2 score to tie the match as sophomore Ancele Dolensek forced a third set at sixth singles.
- With everyone watching, Dolensek gave the Tartans the 4-3 win with a final score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
