#18 Tartans Win Twice to Open Spring Season
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 18th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team opened the spring season with a pair of victories at home on Saturday, February 7. The Tartans started the day with a 6-1 win against Allegheny before topping Oberlin, 5-2.
Inside the Results Against Allegheny
- The Tartans swept through doubles play with the second pair of junior Raghav Jangbahadur and freshman Ian Miller finishing first with a 6-1 score. Senior Akshay Joshi and freshman Rian Merchant followed with a win at second doubles, 6-0.
- Miller was the first to finish singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles.
- Tinoco then won at second singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Jangbahadur earned match point at third singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Inside the Results Against Oberlin
- The Tartans again swept through doubles play with the same doubles pairings winning in the same order. This time the scores were 6-0 and 6-2 for the second and third doubles pairings.
- In singles play, sophomore Alex Feies finished first with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first singles.
- Tinoco then won at second singles, 6-2, 6-4, ahead of Jangbahadur at third singles. Jangbahadur needed a third set and won 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
- Freshman Michael Larinov was the final singles winner for the Tartans at the sixth position with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
