(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team took 25th-ranked New York University to overtime on Sunday, February 8, before falling by two, 70-68. The Tartans are now 10-9 overall and 2-6 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Violets move to 15-5 and 6-3.

- An 11-3 run by the Tartans drew them even on a bucket in the paint by senior Buckley DeJardin and the senior, who entered the game eight points shy of 1,000, converted a fast break layup and free throw on the next possession to put the Tartans ahead for the first time in the game.
- A back-and-forth second half saw no lead larger than three points until NYU took a five-point lead with 10:13 to play on a jumper in the paint by Henry Bickford, his only points of the game.
- Seven minutes later, graduate student Sam Adusei put the Tartans up 55-51 with a triple that ended a 12-3 run.
- NYU later erased a five-point deficit and led by two with 33 seconds to play.
- A three-point play by Dimitrijevic gave the Tartans the lead but NYU would equalize with a free throw with three seconds left to send the game to overtime.
- There were five lead changes and two ties in overtime with DeJardin draining a three-pointer to go ahead 68-67 with 24 ticks left on the clock.
- A driving layup by Darren Rubin on NYU's next possession gave them the lead they would hold onto after Rubin's steal led to a pair of free throws at the end in which he made one.
