Tartans Win 70-57 Road Contest at Dickinson to Close Non-Association Slate

(CARLISE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to Carlise, Pennsylvania on Saturday to play Dickison College and left with a 70-57 victory. The Tartans complete their non-University Athletic Association (UAA) slate with a record of 8-3 while the Red Devils are now 3-9.

How it Happened

  • On the first possession of the game sophomore Evan Mirazimi scored on a layup, but the Red Devils then went on a 10-4 run and took a four-point lead with 13:21 to play in the first half.
  • Carnegie Mellon answered with 10 straight points over the next four minutes and led 16-10 following a triple by junior Isaac Higgs.
  • With 3:52 to play in the half, senior Buckley DeJardin gave the Tartans their largest lead of the frame after he connected on a three-point basket to make the score 27-16.
  • Dickinson then closed the half scoring 10 of the final 14 points and cut the Tartans lead to 31-26 at the break.
  • The Red Devils scored the first five points of the second half and knotted the score at 31-all, but the Tartans once again answered and scored 11 straight points and took a 42-31 lead following a layup by graduate student Nolan Casey with the clock showing 13:33.
  • The home team countered with an 8-1 run over the next two minutes to pull within four points at 43-39.
  • Carnegie Mellon then followed with an 8-2 run to push its lead back to double digits with 7:11 to play at 51-41.
  • The Tartans maintained control the rest of the way and went on for the 70-57 victory after converting 6-of-8 from the line down the stretch.

  • The Tartans ended the game shooting 44.4% (24-54) from the floor and converted 4-of-19 (21.1%) from behind the arc
  • Five Tartans scored in double figures with graduate student Sam Adusei leading the way with 17 followed by 16 points from DeJardin
  • Mirazimi ended the game with 11 points while Higgs and graduate student Nikola Dimitrijevic each finished with 10 points.
  • Adusei also led the Tartans with eight rebounds, tying his season-high, five assists and a career-high six steals.
  • Mirazimi grabbed seven rebounds in the victory and Higgs, for the second straight game hauled down a career-high six boards.

Red Devil Stats

  • The Red Devils ended the game shooting 35.2% (19-54) from the floor and converted 7-24 (29.2%) from behind the arc.
  • Jacob Pichay led Dickison with 17 points while Isaiah Edmond ended the game with 14 points.
