Tartans Tripped Up by Allegheny, 72-65

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team hosted Allegheny College on Thursday afternoon at the Highmark Center and dropped a 72-65 contest. The Tartan are now 7-2 overall while the Gators move to 3-6.

How it Happened

  • A triple by senior Buckley DeJardin at the 14:41 mark of the first half gave the Tartans a 12-10 advantage.
  • Over the next four-and-a-half minutes, Allegheny scored eight straight points and led 18-12 midway through the first stanza.
  • The Gators' lead grew to as many as eight points over the first twenty minutes of play before they took a 31-26 into the break.
  • The visitors opened the second frame on a 14-4 run and led 45-30 with 15:15 to play.
  • Carnegie Mellon used a 9-2 run midway through the second half and cut the deficit to 53-47 following a triple by sophomore Ian Brown.
  • Allegheny answered and pushed its lead back to double figures at 65-55 with three minutes left in the contest.
  • The Tartans didn't go away without a fight, as they used a 10-4 run to make the score 69-65 with 38 seconds left, but three converted foul shots by the Gators down the stretch sealed the win for the away team.

  • The Tartans shot 29.6% (21-71) from the field, 21.6% (8-37) from behind the arc, and 71.4% (15-21) from the free throw line.
  • Brown led the Tartans with a career-high 19 points off the bench
  • DeJardin finished the game with 18 points while sophomore Evan Mirazimi added 11 points in the setback.
  • Graduate student Nolan Casey led the way on the boards with a career-best 16 rebounds. Casey also had eight points.

  • The Gators shot 51.9% (27-52) from the field, 37.5% (6-16) from behind the arc, and 63.2% (12-19) from the free throw line.
  • Pijus Latauskas led the offense with 29 points.
