Tartans Close Road Trip With 70-57 Win Against Middlebury
(BRUNSWICK, Maine) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team is 7-1 after a decisive 70-57 victory against Middlebury College at Bowdoin College in the 2025 UAA Challenge on Sunday, December 7. The Panthers fall to 4-3 for the year.
How it Happened
- A layup by graduate student Nolan Casey broke a 7-7 tie with six minutes gone by that started an 11-0 run capped by back-to-back treys by sophomore Ian Brown.
- That 11-point lead would grow to as many as 15 points four different times including when graduate student Nikola Dimitrijevic answered a Middlebury three-pointer with one of his own to make it 35-20 with 4:34 to go in the half.
- After Brown hit two free throws to make it 37-22, Middlebury closed the last 33 seconds with five points.
- The Tartans held the Panthers to 28.2% shooting from the floor for the half and outrebounded Middlebury 26 to 19.
- The Panthers started the second period with a 6-0 run before a pair of driving layups by graduate student Sam Adusei put the Tartans back up by eight points.
- The Tartans continued to score and closed a 15-2 run with a layup by senior Buckley DeJardin to lead by 17. During the run, the Panthers were 0-for-7 on three-point attempts.
- Justin Fuerbacher ended the three-point drought by the Panthers with 11 minutes to play and started a 7-0 run to bring the team back to a 10-point deficit.
- A 15-7 run by the Tartans that saw a 7-of-11 shot performance from the field against a 2-of-11 performance by the Panthers gave the Cardinal and Gray a 67-49 lead with two minutes to go.
- The Tartans were able to maintain their lead by scoring on two of their final four possessions to leave the UAA Challenge with a second win.

- Dimitrijevic led four Tartans in double figures with 20 points.
- DeJardin finished with 18 points, Casey with 11, and Brown with 10.
- Dimitrijevic also led the team with four assists and 12 rebounds.
- The Tartans shot 48.% from the field, 33.3% from three-point range, and 54.5% from the free throw line.
Panther Stats
- Ian Murray led with 18 points while Kuba Cwalina had 13 points off the bench.
- Murray also led the team with eight rebounds.
- The Panthers finished the game with a season-low shooting percentage of 29.6% while making just 20.0% of their season-high 40 three-point attempts.
