Adusei's Triple Sends Tartans to OT Win at Bowdoin

(BRUNSWICK, Maine) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team won its first overtime game of the season and advance to 6-1 under the direction of first year head coach Justin Simon with a 90-88 victory at Bowdoin College on Saturday, December 6 in the first game for either team in the 2025 UAA Challenge.

How it Happened

  • Despite shooting 51.9% from the field and 57.1% from behind the arc in the first half, the Tartans trailed, 35-34, at the break.
  • The only lead of the half for the Tartans came in the first two minutes when sophomore Evan Mirazimi made the team's first three-pointer to make it 5-3. After that, the Polar Bears would leave by as many as five points during the frame with the Tartans tying the game five different times.
  • The Polar Bears were 9-of-18 from three in the first half while the Tartans made 4-of-7. Senior Buckley DeJardin had two of those three-pointers and five other buckets to lead the Tartans with 16 points.
  • The Tartans were consistent from the field again in the second half, making 55.2% of their attempts.
  • There were seven lead changes in the second half with the Polar Bears leading by as many as six points, 60-54, with 8:07 to go and the Tartans leading by five points, 76-71 with 25 seconds to play after graduate student Sam Adusei made two free throws.
  • After Bowdoin tied the game at 76-all with seven seconds left, a three-pointer by Adusei fell short at the buzzer sending the game to overtime.
  • Adusei, who scored 15 points in the second half, led the Tartans in overtime as well with eight points.
  • Overtime was similar to the rest of the game, as the teams traded points until three free throws by Ray Cuevas put Bowdoin up by one with six seconds remaining.
  • This time, Adusei's attempt as time ticked down was good, as he converted a trey from the wing with 0.7 to play.

Tartan Stats

  • Adusei finished with 27 points while DeJardin scored 26.
  • Mirazimi and graduate student Nikola Dimitrijevic each scored 14 points with Mirazimi grabbing a team-best eight rebounds.
  • Adusei also had six assists while Dimitrijevic had four.

Polar Bear Stats

  • Cuevas finished with 39 points, making 12-of-15 free throws, and eight rebounds.
  • Alex Halpern scored 18 points and Ben Chilson reached double figures with 10 points.
