Tartans Drop Exhibition Contest at Division II Walsh
(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to North Canton, Ohio on Monday evening to play Division II Walsh University in an exhibition contest. The Tartans dropped a 98-72 decision to the Cavaliers.
How It Happened
- The Cavaliers took an early lead at 26-7 with 13:20 remaining in the half after scoring 13 straight points.
- With 4:33 remaining in the half, sophomore Ian Brown connected on a three-pointer followed by a pair of free throws from graduate student Sam Adusei to which made the score 39-21 before the Cavaliers took a 44-27 lead into the break.
- The Tartans sank three three-pointers in the first five minutes of the second half. Brown scored two and junior Isaac Higgs scored one that made the score 54-38
- Midway through the second frame, senior Buckley DeJardin scored six points within thirty seconds during a Tartans' 10-2 run that cut the deficit to 65-53 with 9:32 remaining.
- With 2:05 remaining, DeJardin scored his fourth three-pointer of the half, making the score 91-72.
- The Cavaliers scored the final seven points of the game to earn a 98-72 victory.
Tartan Stats
- The Tartans ended the game shooting 48.0% (24-50) from the floor and converted 47.8% (11-23) from behind the arc.
- DeJardin had a team-high 20 points. He made 7-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from behind the arc.
- Brown scored 15 points. He shot 5-of-9 from the floor including 5-of-8 from behind the arc.
- Graduate student Nikola Dimitrijevic had 14 points and a team-high of 10 rebounds.
- Adusei finished with nine points and a team-high of eight assists.
Cavalier Stats
- The Cavaliers ended the game shooting 52.9% (36-68) from the floor and converted 33.3% (11-33) from behind the arc.
- Quintero Barnett scored a game-high of 25 points. He made 11-of-17 from the floor and had five steals.
- Kobe Mitchell and Kaleb Schaffer each had 15 points.
