#8 Tartans Advance to Third Round of NCAA Championship with Win Over Case Western Reserve
(BALTIMORE, Md.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked eighth in the nation, ran into 15th-ranked and University Athletic Association foe Case Western Reserve University on Saturday afternoon in the second round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship. The Tartans won 4-1 to move to 18-7 for the season while the Spartans season ended with a 13-7 mark. The match was played on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Inside the Results:
- Case Western Reserve took the point in doubles with wins at one and two. The Tartans third pair of sophomores Shelly Zinchenko and Rachel Li collected a 6-0 win.
- Freshman Ika Kanumuri knotted the score at 1-all with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top spot.
- Senior Divya Venkatarama then gave the Tartans a 2-1 advantage with a win at five singles by the scores of 6-2, 6-2.
- At four singles, Zinchenko claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory and then sophomore Kotistha Modak won 6-3, 6-3 in the third spot to clinch the match for the Cardinal and Gray.
