#9 Tartans Defeat #11 Emory, 4-3

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis hosted 11th-ranked Emory University on Friday, April 3, defeating the Eagles by a 4-3 score. The match places them at a 12-3 overall record for the season while Emory falls to 8-5.

Inside the Results

  • With doubles tied 1-1 after freshman Ika Kanumuri and sophomore Kotistha Modak won 6-3 at first doubles, the Tartans secured the doubles point when sophomore Victoria Gazda and sophomore Shelly Zinchenko won 7-6 (7-4) at third doubles.
  • Emory took a 3-1 lead with singles victories in the sixth, third, and first positions.
  • Modak won at fourth singles with set scores of 6-3 and 6-4 ahead of Kanumuri winning at second singles, 6-3, 7-5.
  • Senior Divya Venkatarama earned match point at fifth singles with a 6-3, 7-5 scoreline after trailing 4-1 in the second set.
