Tartans Close UAA Season with 68-59 Loss at CWRU
(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, to play Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, February 28. The Spartans were victorious over the Tartans, 68-59, putting the Tartans at 15-10 overall and 7-7 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Spartans finish 11-14 overall and 4-10 in the conference.
How it Happened
- Freshman Aleena Dinker hit two three-pointers in less than thirty seconds and another three-pointer two minutes later, giving the Tartans an early 10-8 lead.
- Senior Nicole Timko broke a 10-10 tie with two three-pointers, making the score 16-10 with 4:20 remaining in the first quarter.
- Dinker connected for her fourth three-pointer of the quarter, giving the Tartans a 21-13 lead.
- At 5:47 remaining in the second quarter, the Spartans began an 8-0 streak. Timko ended the streak with four points to finish out the quarter with the Spartans leading, 35-30.
- The Spartans held a narrow lead for the entire third quarter, finishing it out with a 55-50 lead.
- CWRU pushed out to a 61-52 lead before maintaining their advantage by making seven of eight free throws in the last four minutes.
Tartan Stats
- The Tartans finished the game shooting 22-of-54 (40.7%) from the floor and 10-of-22 (45.5%) from behind the arc for their second highest amount of three-pointers made in a game this season.
- Timko was the team's top scorer with 23 points. She was 10-for-20 from the floor and 3-of-8 from behind the arc. She also had seven rebounds.
- Dinker scored 15 points, putting her over 200 for the season. She also had a team-high of four assists.
- Sophomore Anya Peper scored 11 points going 3-of-3 from long range for a career-high in points and three-pointers made.

- The Spartans ended the game shooting 22-of-58 (37.9%) from the floor and 6-of-19 (31.6%) from behind the arc.
- Emily Plachta scored a game-high 31 points.
- Maura Schorr scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and had two blocks.
- Biz Watson had 12 rebounds and two blocks and Mya Hartjes scored 10 points with four assists.
