Gibbs Records 1,000th Point in Tough Loss to Rochester
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team dropped a 57-54 decision to the University of Rochester on Friday, February 20. The Tartans are now 13-9 overall and 5-6 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Yellowjackets move to 11-12 and 4-8.
How it Happened
- The Tartans missed their first eight shots, finally converting a layup after the media timeout to make the score 7-2.
- The Tartans would finish the quarter shooting 26.7% from the floor and trailed 15-8.
- Neither team shot well in the second quarter but the Yellowjackets maintained the lead and held a 26-20 advantage at halftime.
- The Tartans turned it around in the third quarter, shooting 53.3% from the floor with senior Savannah Gibbs leading the way with seven points. With her first of two free throws with 1:37 to go in the quarter, she became the 15th player in Tartan women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points. Her free throws pulled the Tartans to within two points, before a fast break layup by freshman Nisha Musunuri tied the game for the fourth time in the quarter.
- Trailing by one heading into the final frame, the Tartans found themselves down five points with 4:47 to go.
- A triple by senior Nicole Timko made it a two-point deficit with 1:14 to go and Rochester went up three with a free throw and 29 seconds to go.
- Missed free throws by the Yellowjackets kept it a three-point deficit, however, the Tartans couldn't convert three different three-point shots in the final 12 seconds, leading to the victory for Rochester.

- Timko led all players with 15 points and recorded her second career double-double with 13 rebounds.
- Gibbs finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
- Sophomore Payton Baney led with seven rebounds and freshman Aleena Dinker had four assists.
Yellowjacket Stats
- Grace Corelli led with 11 points and Annelise Dexter finished with 10 points.
- Dexter collected nine rebounds and Corelli led with three assists.
