Tartans Drop Road Contest at #21 UChicago
(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team faced 21st-ranked University of Chicago on Sunday, February 15, falling in a competitive match, 57-51. The Tartans are now 13-8 overall and 5-5 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Maroons advance to 16-5 and 8-3.
How it Happened
- A slow offensive start to the game saw the first quarter end with the Maroons leading, 13-8.
- About midway through the second quarter the Maroons had a 10-point lead and they would finish the frame with a nine-point advantage, 28-19, when Chris Sanders hit a jumper in the paint with seven seconds on the clock.
- The Maroons shot 41.4% in the half while the Tartans shot 29.2%.
- The Tartans hit three three-pointers in the third quarter but only made two other shots from the field. The Maroons also struggled from the field, making just four of 13 attempts but they maintained their lead throughout.
- Senior Nicole Timko had nine of the team's 14 points in third, including the last point of the frame with a free throw.
- The Maroons built a 12-point lead in the fourth but the Tartans clawed back to within three points with 53 seconds to go after a steal by freshman Nisha Musunuri led to a layup by freshman Aleena Dinker.
- Free throw shooting by the Maroons kept the Tartans from completing the comeback as the home team made 5-of-6 from the line to close the game.

- Timko led with 19 points while Dinker and junior Allie Heyer each scored seven points.
- Dinker had a career-high seven assists.
- Musunuri tied a career-high with three steals.

- Alexis Clark led with 10 rebounds.
