#17 Tartans Fall at Marietta, 73-63.
(MARIETTA, Ohio) - The 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team dropped a 73-63 decision to Marietta College in the final game of the 39th Annual Jim Meagle Classic at Marietta on Saturday, November 22. The Tartans are now 2-2 overall while Marietta moves to 2-4.
How it Happened
- The Tartans led by four twice in the first quarter with senior Nicole Timko draining a three-pointer with 3:43 on the clock to make it 13-9.
- The Pioneers answered with a 9-3 run to close the quarter with an 18-16 lead.
- After Marietta opened the second quarter with a basket, the Tartans used a 16-2 run to take a 10-point lead, 32-22, with 2:09 to go. The run ended with a three-pointer by freshman Aleena Dinker.
- A trey by Marietta finished the quarter scoring with the Tartans leading 32-25 at the half.
- Marietta outscored the Tartans by seven in the third quarter with sophomore Payton Baney hitting a layup with three seconds to go to tie it at 45-all.
- The teams traded hoops with the Tartans pulling to within one-point on a triple by sophomore Anya Peper with 3:54 to play.
- Marietta would then score its final 12 points from the free throw line to take the 10-point victory.
Tartan Stats
- Timko, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the team with 16 points, scoring 14 in the first half.
- Baney finished with 11 points and senior Savannah Gibbs scored 10 and pulled down 10 rebounds.
- Gibbs and Dinker finished with three assists.
Pioneer Stats
- Kelsey Harlan led with 25 points, as Emma Rasmussen scored 13 and Kendall Sury had 11.
- Amelia Uhrig led wtih 10 rebounds.
- Harlan also led with five assists.
