Tartans Sweep Series with Rochester After 59-46 Win
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team swept the series with the University of Rochester after a 59-46 home win on Sunday, February 9. The Tartans ae now 16-4 and 6-3 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Yellowjackets are 10-10 and 3-6.
How it Happened
- Despite shooting just 3-of-8 from the field in the first period, the Tartans held and Yellowjackets were tied at 8-all, as the Yellowjackets shot 4-of-18.
- The Tartans turned it around in the second period, outscoring the visitors by 13 points and holding them to just four points.
- Junior Nicole Timko was the leader for the Tartans, scoring 10 points while draining two three-pointers in the period.
- The Yellowjackets climbed to within nine points by the end of the third quarter after rallying from a 20-point deficit with a 21-10 run over the final 7:23 of the frame.
- Senior Anisha Chintala dropped eight points in the third quarter to lead the Tartans while Timko scored another five points.
- The Tartans maintained the lead through the fourth, as Rochester could only get to within seven points before the Cardinal and Gray closed the last four minutes with an 8-2 run.
Tartan Stats
- Chintala ended the game with 21 points, scoring 14 in the second half. She also had six steals.
- Timko finished with 19 points and four assists and tied for the team-lead with six rebounds.
- Junior Savannah Gibbs also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points. She also had six boards.
- The team finished the game shooting 50.0% from the field after hitting 66.7% in the last quarter.
Yellowjacket Stats
- Abby Gress led with 19 points and three assists.
- Erin Lillis had 12 points and Raquel Williams led with eight rebounds.
Notes
- The Tartans swept the series with Rochester for the first time since 2022 and eighth time in 36 years.
- The Tartans swept the home UAA weekend for the first time since 2017, as the defeated Emory University Friday night.
