#25 Tartans Earn Double-Digit Road Win vs. Rochester
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The 25th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team rebounded from a Friday evening loss at Emory University to defeat the University of Rochester, 72-55, on Sunday afternoon. The Tartans are now 14-4 overall and 4-3 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Yellowjackets drop to 10-8 and 3-4.
How it Happened
- The Tartans shot 46.2% from the field in the first quarter to take a 14-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
- Freshman Payton Baney started the scoring with a layup off an assist by junior Savannah Gibbs and after two driving layups by senior Anisha Chintala, the Tartans led 6-0.
- Junior Nicole Timko scored five points off the bench near the end of the quarter and later led the Tartans with 11 points by halftime.
- Timko drained her third three-pointer of the game and the fourth in the quarter for the Tartans to give the visitors their largest lead of the half, 32-18, with 1:45 to go.
- Senior Catherine Or scored seven points in the second quarter, including a layup in the last two seconds to help the Tartans lead 34-21 at the break.
- Erin Lillis did her part for Rochester in the first half, connecting on 5-of-8 from the floor for 12 points.
- Five minutes into the second half, Rochester cut the deficit to seven points.
- The Tartans answered with a 16-4 run over a 3:45 span led by nine points from senior Isha Nambisan to lead 56-37 before a jumper by Claire Groenewoud closed the quarter with the Tartans ahead by 17 points.
- The final quarter was evenly played with the Tartans maintaining their 17-point advantage by the end of the game.

- The Tartans finished the game shooting 49.1% from the floor and 40.0% from long range.
- Timko led the team with 19 points after making 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
- Or tallied 16 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
- Nambisan finished with 12 points and Chintala with seven points and three steals.

- The team shot 33.3% from the floor and made 5-of-18 (27.8%) from long range.
- Ellis led all players with 25 points with A Gress scoring 10 points.
- Gress led the team with six rebounds.
