#25 Tartans Drop Game At Emory, 77-67
(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team traveled to Atlanta to face Emory University on Friday, January 31. The Tartans lost to the Eagles, 77-67. This puts the Tartans at 13-4 overall and 3-3 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while the Eagles are 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
How it Happened
- The Tartans narrowly won the first quarter 16-15 after shooting 42.9% from the floor.
- Junior Savannah Gibbs scored the first points for the Tartans with a jumper shot. Gibbs scored a total of five points in the quarter.
- The Tartans connected on 3-of-6 from long range in the first quarter.
- The Eagles took control of the lead a minute into the second quarter with a three-pointer by Hanna Malik. The Eagles scored the next six points and went on to lead by nine at the half.
- Freshman Payton Baney ended the Eagles' streak with a layup.
- Despite the Tartans shooting 42.9% again, the Eagles won the second quarter by scoring 10-of-18 from the floor.
- Senior Isha Nambisan connected a three-pointer three minutes into the third quarter. This was immediately matched with a three-pointer from the Eagles.
- Gibbs led the Tartans in the quarter with eight points, but it wasn't enough to make up ground.
- Nambisan and Or led the Tartans in the fourth quarter. Together, they scored 18 of the team's 20 points in the frame.
Tartan Stats
- The Tartans shot 25-of-61 (41%) from the floor and 7-of-24 (29.2%) from behind the arc. They took eight three-pointers in the final quarter when trying to catch the Eagles, making only two.
- Or led the Tartans with 23 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
- Nambisan had 14 points and six rebounds, making three from long range for the sixth time this season.
- Gibbs finished with 13 points, three assists, and three rebounds.
Eagle Stats
- The Eagles shot 27-of-58 (46.6%) from the floor and 8-of-18 (44.4%) from behind the arc. They also made 15-of-21 free throw attempts.
- Malik scored 15 points, hitting four from beyond the arc.
- Mary Mullinax also scored 15 points, after connecting on 7-of-10 from the floor off the bench.
