#19 Tartans Cruise to 10-0 with 71-48 Win Against UW-Eau Claire

(BEREA, Ohio) – The 19th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team returned to action after the holiday break with a 71-48 victory against Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Sunday, December 29 at the Baldwin Wallace University Invitational. The Tartans are now 10-0 for the season while the Blugolds are now 4-6.

Inside the Box Score

  • UW-Eau Claire led for the first eight minutes and 52 seconds of the game until senior Catherine Or hit a jumper outside the paint off a pass from senior Isha Nambisan for the Tartans to take a 14-13 lead.
  • Or and Nambisan led the Tartans in the first quarter with five points and one assist apiece, as the team shot 43.8% from the field
  • A 7-0 run to start the second quarter gave the Tartans a 10-point lead and forced UW-Eau Claire to take a timeout.
  • The Tartans would go on to win the quarter by a 17-7 score and lead by 13 at the break.
  • Or scored another five points while five other Tartans hit a bucket in the frame, with the team assisting on six of the seven made baskets which included three from long range.

  • Senior Anisha Chintala led the Tartans in the third quarter with seven points, as the back-and-forth quarter ended with the Tartans leading by 14 points.
  • Another strong fourth quarter for Carnegie Mellon where the team shot 56.3% from the floor kept the lead in double digits and ballooned it past 20 for the final 5:31 of the game.
  • Or dropped eight points in the final quarter, including going 2-for-2 from the three-point line to finish with a career-high tying four made for the game.

  • Chintala posted a double-double with 17 points and a career-best 11 rebounds to go with four steals for her first career double-double.
  • Or tallied 18 points and six assists.
  • Nambisan finished with 14 points after making four from long range.
  • Junior Ava Arias contributed to the Tartans' plus-12 rebound advantage by grabbing nine for the game.

Blugold Stats

  • Kyla Overskei led with 21 points on 7-for-17 shooting.
  • Jessilyn Ernst had 10 rebounds.

The Tartans will face the hosts, #17/20 Baldwin Wallace (8-1) on Monday, December 30 at 3:00 p.m. in the championship game of the invitational. Last year, Baldwin Wallace advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and they return 17 letterwinners and are on an eight-game winning streak.
