Tartans Cruise to 5-0 Start with 81-43 Victory Against Oberlin

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with an 81-43 victory at home against Oberlin College on Wednesday, November 20. The Tartans are now 5-0 while the Yeowomen are 2-3.

Inside the Box Score

  • Oberlin held an early 6-2 lead before the Tartans rattled off 13 straight points with the run closing on a steal and layup by senior Catherine Or.
  • The Tartans shot 12-of-13 from the free throw line in the first quarter on their way to building a 23-11 lead at the first break.
  • Despite a six minute and 23 second scoring drought in the second period, the Tartans led by 18 points, 42-24, at halftime.
  • Senior Isha Nambisan drained a three-pointer with three ticks left on the clock in the second frame to end the scoring with the Tartans shooting 44.4% from the quarter.
  • The home team continued to shoot well in the third period, making 50.0% of their attempts, and led by as many as 34 points after a triple by sophomore Allie Heyer with 30 seconds to go.
  • Things slowed a bit for the Tartans in the final frame but they held Oberlin to just eight points to go on to the 38-point win.

  • Senior Anisha Chintala led with 13 points while Or and Heyer each scored 11.
  • Junior Nicole Timko and freshman Payton Baney finished with 10 points apiece.
  • Or recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds and she led the team in assists once again with six.
  • Baney tied her career-high in rebounds with eight while junior Liv LaFond had a season-high six boards.
  • Senior Isha Nambisan picked up two blocks in the game.

  • Camille Zinaich led the team with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Lily Najmulski had 10 points.
