Freimanis Wins Second Straight 60-Meter Hurdles Title, Tartans Place Third at UAA Indoor Championships
(WALTHAM, Mass.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team placed third at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Brandeis University. The Tartans scored 115 points to finish behind Emory with 142 points and Chicago with 164 points.
Top Performances on the Track:
- Sophomore Luke Freimanis won the UAA title in the 60-meter hurdles for the second straight year with a time of 8.22 seconds while freshman Haoran Lin placed fourth in 8.41 seconds.
- Junior Matthew Yu finished second in the 60-meter finals with a time of 6.91. He later placed third in 200-meter finals with a time of 22.30.
- In the 400-meter run, senior Jeremy Ocloo finished second in a 50.55.
- Junior Matthew Short placed sixth in the mile with a time of 4:16.6.
- Senior Ryan Podnar placed third in the 3000-meter run with a personal-best time of 8:27.74.
- The men's 4x400-meter relay of Ocloo, sophomore Ryan Joyce, freshman Aryan Hiray and freshman Eric de Oliveira finished second in 3:21.91, edging out Emory by .05 seconds.
Top Performances in the Field:
- Junior Christian Duckworth placed third in a competitive pole vault, with the first and second leaders breaking the previous UAA record. Duckworth vaulted a new personal best and broke the school record by .23 meters in a height of 4.92 meters. This places him 17th nationally. Junior Solomon Glavach cleared 4.72 meters, a personal best for him as well, and also dipped under his previous school record vault. Sophomore Lucas Knappenberger cleared 4.62 to place eighth.
- The Tartans went three, four, five in the shotput with senior Johnathan Crawshaw recording a throw of 15.32 meters to place third, tying his personal best. Junior Sam Alligood placed fourth with a mark of 14.52, and Mohammad Ahmed finished fifth with a mark of 14.24 meters.
- Senior Morgan Johnson finished fifth in the triple jump recording a mark of 14.04, a new personal-best, while junior Atai Tahasan finished eighth with a mark of 13.77 meters.
