Tartans in Third After First Day of UAA Indoor Championships
(WALTHAM, Mass.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships on Saturday. The two-day championship meet is being hosted by Brandeis University just outside of Boston Massachusetts. The Tartans have 32 points and are currently third heading into the final day.
Top Performances on the Track:
- Senior Ryan Podnar placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:53.65. Junior Nicolo Fasanelli placed seventh with a time of 15:00.07 while sophomore Ollie Moss finished in ninth crossing in 15:06.65.
- The Tartans DMR team of freshman Stefan Langridge sophomore Ryan Joyce, freshman Franklin Ritz, and junior Matthew Short crossed in third with a time of 10:14.22.
- Junior Matthew Yu placed third in the preliminary 60-meter dash to qualify for the finals in a time of 6.96. He also qualified in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 22.37.
- Sophomore Luke Freimanis won the preliminary 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.16, also qualifying for the finals was freshman Haoran Lin with a time of 8.58 in eighth.
- In the 400-meter dash prelims, the Tartans have two athletes qualified. Freshman Eric de Oliveira is currently in first with a time of 49.95, senior Jeremy Ocloo's time puts him in fifth with a 50.41.
Top Performances in the Field:
- Freimanis started the day clearing the bar at 1.88 meters to place eighth in the high jump.
- Senior Morgan Johnson placed second in the long jump with a career-best jump of 6.96 meters. Freshman Alexander Moser placed fourth with a jump of 6.51 meters. Freimanis placed fifth with a jump of 6.49 meters in his third event of the day.
- Senior Johnathan Crawshaw recorded a toss of 14.33 meters in the weight throw to place eighth.
