Feies Named UAA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
(PITTSBURGH Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Alex Feies was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performance over the weekend at the inaugural Battleground Invitational.
Feies helped the Tartans win the Invitational which was hosted by the University of Mary Washington. In a field of eight ranked teams in the top 25 nationally, the Tartans won three matches, the first a 4-2 win over the host #15 Eagles followed by a 4-3 semifinal win over UAA foe #8 WashU and then defeated #7 Johns Hopkins University 4-2 in the championship match. Feies over the three matches went 3-0 in singles play at the top spot and 2-1 in doubles play, winning once at one doubles and went 1-1 at three doubles. All three of his singles matches were straight set victories.
The ninth-ranked Tartans who are 13-2, with 10 wins coming over ranked opponents, will compete Saturday, April 18, at fifth-ranked Case Western Reserve University.
