Feies Selected as UAA Rookie of the Year; Three Others Earn All-UAA

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis first-year athlete Alex Feies has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year and is joined on the All-Association team by three others. Feies is the second straight UAA Rookie of the Year for the Tartans.

Feies earned first-team honors at first singles while fellow first-year player Takeshi Koey was named to the second team at fifth singles. Feies and sophomore Daniel Kong paired at third doubles and were honored on the second team. Sophomore Raghav Jangbahadur earned honorable mention accolades at second singles.

Feies collected a singles record of 28-7 with a 16-4 mark in dual match play. He won the ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship and advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Cup in the fall. During UAA Championship play, Feies won all three of his first singles matches. With his 28 wins, Feies now holds the record for most singles victories in a season, topping Daniel Levine's 26 in 2017-18.

Koey closed the year with an 11-4 singles mark and won two matches with one unfinished at the UAA Championship.

Feies and Kong joined forces on the court at third doubles on March 22 and finished with a 5-1 record with four matches going unfinished. Three of those unfinished matches happened at the UAA Championship with the pair tied in the first round, leading play in the second match, and one point behind in the fifth-place match against Washington University in St. Louis.

Jangbahadur was 16-9 in singles play for the season and 10-8 at second singles.
