Zhang Named Academic All-America
(GREENWOOD, Ind.) – Senior David Zhang of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team was named to the 2026 Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). Zhang found a spot on the second team as this marks his second honor on the second after being named his sophomore season.
This prestigious award for Zang is the eighth overall Academic All-America recognition for a Carnegie Mellon men's golf athlete and the second time an individual has received the accolade twice. View the complete list of Tartan award winners.
Zhang helped the Tartans place eighth at the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, as it was the ninth appearance by the Tartans at the championship event and seventh straight. The senior was named a PING All-American for the third time in his career after he competed in all 31 rounds for the Tartans and was third on the team with a scoring average of 72.6. He recorded a season-best round of four-under par on two occasions this season. The first was a 68 in the fall at the at the Wabash Invitational where he placed third individually in a field of 96 golfers and the second was during the spring where he shot a 67 at the Sam Snead Collegiate where he earned his first collegiate individual medalist honor in a field of 108 golfers. He recorded 17 rounds of even par or better this season.
In the classroom, Zhang carried a 3.91 as a business administration major. He was a member of the Carnegie Mellon American Marketing Association, which is a non-profit committee where he worked to develop marketing strategies to promote non-profit brands, goals and efforts. Zhang was also part of Stock Talks at Carnegie Mellon where he served as the vice president of membership development. The organization facilitated students with opportunities to get involved in the stock market through projects and workshops. He volunteered for First Tee as a Pittsburgh Coach where he organized lessons and clinics for golfers aged 7-18 years old for teaching sessions. Zhang was also a growth intern at Winford Wealth.
