Tartans Finish Eighth at 2026 NCAA Championship; Wang Named Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman
(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team ended play at the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships with an eighth place finish out of 43 teams. The four-day tournament was held at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Tartans recorded a final-round score of 293 to bring their 72-hole total to 1,156 (281-290-292-293), finishing at +8. At the conclusion of play, freshman Joshua Wang was named the recipient of the 2026 NCAA Division III Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award presented by StrackaLine.

How it Happened:
- Freshman Joshua Wang led the Tartans over the four-day event and carded a two-over par 74 in the final round for a three-under par 284 (68-72-70-74) placing him tied for 12th individually in a field of 225 golfers.
- Senior David Zhang fired a round of two-under par 70 in his final collegiate round and finished the 72-hole event at even par 287 (70-72-75-70), placing tied for 20th individually.
- Junior Ryan Dannegger carded a 76 on Friday and completed play with a 291 (70-71-74-76).
- A one-over par 73 for freshman Jason Chan over the final round was his best of the championships, as he finished with a 297 (73-75-76-73).
- Freshman Charlie Hubbard ended the fourth round with an 81 for a 303 (73-76-73-81).

- This was the Tartans ninth NCAA Championship Tournament appearance and seventh straight.
- The team's 72-hole total of 1,156 (+8) ranks as the third lowest in program history.
- Wang's 72-hole score of three-under par 284 is tied for the third lowest four-round score in program history.

- Wang was also named a 2026 Division III PING First Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
