Tartans Sit in Second With Opening Round of 2026 NCAA Championship Suspended

(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play at the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Tartans played their opening round on Las Colinas Golf Course, recording a team score of 281 (-3) to sit in second place out of 43 teams as play was suspended due to weather during the afternoon round with 19 teams still on the course. The first round will continue on Wednesday prior to the start of the second round.

How it Happened:

  • Freshman Joshua Wang fired a three-under par 68 on Tuesday to lead the Tartans and is tied for third individually in a field of 225 golfers.
  • Senior David Zhang and junior Ryan Dannegger both entered the clubhouse with a first round score of one-under par 70.
  • Freshman Charlie Hubbard ended with a two-over par 73 over the first 18 holes.
  • Freshman Jason Chan, who recorded an eagle on the fifth hole, ended play on Tuesday with a round of two-over par 73.

Up Next:

  • Play resumes Wednesday, May 13, as the Tartans will play the El Campeón Course. The Tartans' tee times are set to begin at 11:30 a.m. with Hubbard the first out on the par-72, 6,778-yard course. Following Wednesday's round, the field will be pared to 18 teams and the top six individuals. The final two days of action will take place on the El Campeón Course.
