Joshua Wang Named Finalist for Jack Nicklaus Award
(NORMAN, Okla.) – Freshman Joshua Wang of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team has been named by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as a finalist for the NCAA Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award. The Nicklaus Award recognizes the top players at the Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA levels.
Ranked seventh via Scoreboard powered by Clippd, Wang has finished inside the top 23 in all nine of his stroke play tournaments this season. He has been the individual medalist on two occasions. In the fall, he won the Gate City Invitational along with the Tartan Invitational. Wang began his collegiate career going 3-0-0 in University Athletic Association (UAA) Match Play in the fall. He has recorded 20 rounds of even par or better this season.
Wang is looking to become the first Nicklaus Award recipient from Carnegie Mellon and the first freshman Division III Nicklaus Award recipient since the inception of the Division III Nicklaus Award in 2003.
The other Division III finalists for the award include Jack Burr of Huntingdon, Jackson Hiller of Oglethorpe, Jonathan McEwen of Washington and Lee, and Kevin Mu of Emory. The winner will be announced by Nicklaus on Sunday, June 7 during his annual Memorial Tournament presented by Workday press conference. The award will be presented to the recipient by Nicklaus and Workday.
