Four Tartans Named PING All-Region

(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University men's golfers have been recognized for their play on the course this season by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Senior David Zhang, junior Ryan Dannegger along with freshmen Joshua Wang and Charlie Hubbard were named to the 2024 PING Region 5 team.

It marks the fourth straight honor for Zhang and is the second overall for Dannegger, as he garnered the accoladed in 2024. It is also the fifth time that at least four Tartans have received the accolade in one season.

Zhang, ranked fourth in the region and 19th national, is third on the team with a scoring average of 72.7 over 27 rounds played. The senior recorded a season-best round of four-under par on two occasions this season. The first was a 68 in the fall at the at the Wabash Invitational where he placed third individually in a field of 96 golfers and the second was during the spring where he shot a 67 at the Sam Snead Collegiate where he earned his first collegiate individual medalist honor in a field of 108 golfers. He has recorded 14 rounds of even par or better this season.

Dannegger has also competed in 27 rounds and is ranked third in the region and 16th nationally. The junior has a scoring average of 72.0, which ranks second on the team. He carded four-under on two occasions this season for his season-low round. The first was at The Savannah Invitational and the other was at the Jekyll Island Collegiate. Dannegger has recorded 16 rounds of even par or better this season.

Wang, ranked first in the region and seven nationally, leads the Tartans with a scoring average of 71.4 over 27 rounds played. The freshman recorded his collegiate-best round of four-under par 68 at the Wabash Invitational. Wang has been the individual medalist on two occasions. In the fall, he won the Gate City Invitational along with the Tartan Invitational. Wang has recorded 20 rounds of even par or better this season.

Hubbard earned his first collegiate individual medalist honors at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational at Foxfire. He currently ranks 11th in the region with a scoring average of 73.7 over 22 rounds played. Twice this season, at Jekyll Island Collegiate and Hampden-Sydney, he recorded rounds of four-under par for a season-low. Hubbard has recorded 10 rounds of even par or better this season.
