(PINEHURST, N.C.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team ended play on Tuesday at the 54-hole Tiger Invitational hosted by Hampden-Sydney College at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The Tartans carded rounds of 287, 287 and 300 and finished eighth in the 20-team field with an 874.

How it Happened:

  • Senior David Zhang led the Tartans with a one-under par 215 (69-72-74) over the 54-hole event. Zhang tied for ninth individually in a field of 100 golfers.
  • Junior Ryan Dannegger and freshman Joshua Wang both ended play with a one-over par 217. Dannegger carded rounds of 73, 72 and 72 while Wang shot two-under 70, three-under 69 and 78.
  • Freshman Jason Chan finished the 54-hole event with a 226 (75-74-77).
  • Senior Andrew Wang ended play with a 229 (76-76-77).

'B' Team Competes at Hampden-Sydney Invite:

  • The Tartans entered a 'B' team and two individuals in the Hampden-Sydney Invite at the par 72, 6,755-yard Foxfire Resort & Golf in Foxfire Village, North Carolina. The Cardinal and Gray carded a school record 36-hole score of eight-under par 568 (282-286) to win the invite in a field of 14 teams.
  • Freshman Charlie Hubbard led the 'B' team with a six-under par 138 (70-68) and won individual medalist in a field of 122 golfers. Hubbard's round two score of four-under par 68 was a collegiate low.
  • Sophomore Andy Yu placed tied for third with a 36-hole score of two-under par 142 after carding rounds of two-under par 70, a collegiate low, and even par 72.
  • Senior Jay Saluja ended with a one-under par 143 (71-72) and tied for fifth individually.
  • Junior Steven Shea carded 146 (71-75) and sophomore Will Blankenship fired a 159 (85-74).
  • Competing as individuals were junior Justin Luan who carded back-to-back rounds of two-under par 70 for a 140 to place second and freshman Sebastian Fernandez, as he ended play with a one-under 143 (70-73) and tied Saluja in fifth.

Notes:

  • Hubbard's score of 138 (-6) is the second lowest individual 36-hole total in the program's history.
  • Laun's score of 140 (-4) is the fifth lowest individual 36-hole total in the program's history.
