Tartans Place Fifth at Savannah Invitational to Open Spring Play; ‘B’ Team Wins Port City Classic

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in The Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College on Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole event was played at The Club at Savannah Harbor Golf Course. The Tartans placed tied for fifth after carding rounds of 290, 292 and 289 for an 871.

How it Happened:

  • Junior Ryan Dannegger led the Tartans with a five-under par 211 (71-68-72) over the 54-hole event. Dannegger tied for sixth individually in a field of 100 golfers
  • Freshman Joshua Wang recorded a pair of eagles over the three rounds and finished with a 217 (72-74-71) and tied for 19th individually with freshman teammate Jason Chan who carded rounds of 73, 71 and 73.
  • Senior Andrew Wang ended the invitational with a 227 (74-80-73).
  • Senior David Zhang carded a 228 (74-79-75) over the 54-hole event.

'B' Team Competes at Port City Invitational:

  • The Tartans entered a 'B' team and two individuals in the Port City Invite at the par 71, 6,739-yard Savannah Country Club with the Cardinal and Gray shooting a 54-hole score of 876 (298-294-284) and placed first in a field of 20 teams.
  • Junior Steven Shea and freshman Charlie Hubbard led the 'B' team, as they both finished with a six-over par 219. Shea carded rounds of 76, 75 and a three-under par 68 over the final round while Hubbard fired rounds of 74, 78 and a two-under par 69 on Tuesday. The two tied for seventh individually in a field of 104 golfers. 
  • Sophomore Will Blankenship sat two strokes behind Shea and Hubbard with a 221 (74-73-74).
  • Sophomore Andy Yu ended the 54-hole event with a 222 (78-71-73)
  • Senior Jay Saluja shot 227 (74-75-78).
  • Competing as individuals were junior Justin Luan who carded 224 (73-77-74) and freshman Sebastian Fernandez 232 (77-80-75).

  • The Tartans will be back on the links on Monday, March 9 when they compete in the Tiger Invitational being played in Pinehurst, North Carolina on the Forest Creek North Course with Hampden–Sydney College the host.
