Tartans Open Competition at UAA Indoor Championships

(WALTHAN, Mass.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team opened competition of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, February 28 at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. After the first day the Tartans are in fourth place with 24 points.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • Graduate student Chloe Bonson placed third in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 17:31.58 to score six points for the Tartans with a top five indoor 5,000-meter time. Junior Ananya Devpura finished in fifth, with a time of 17:38.89, also scoring for the Tartans.
  • The distance medley relay team of sophomore Elise Kempf, freshman Alani Timmons, senior Jackie Liu, and senior Margaret Ann Healy placed fifth to break the school record in 12:08.63.
  • Freshman Sophia Riche qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a preliminaries time of 9.23 seconds, a new personal best and the fourth fastest time in CMU history. Senior Iniyaa Mohanraj and sophomore Alin Aydogan finished seventh and eighth, respectively, and have also qualified for finals. Mohanraj finished in 9.42 and Aydogan finished 9.52.
  • Senior Alexa Lowe just missed out on the finals, placing ninth, with a preliminaries time of 1:01.51. It was a career-best for the indoor 400-meter race for Lowe.
  • Senior Jackie Liu will run in the finals of the 800-meter run on Sunday after qualifying with a time of 2:17.55 in seventh.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Mohnraj took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.38 meters. Senior Zoe King placed fifth jumping 5.38 meters to finish just behind.
  • Sophomore Jessica Thiss earned points after placing eighth in a career-best of 12.96 meters.
