#9 Tartans Drop NCAA Quarterfinal Match to #3 WashU

(CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.) - The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team faced third-ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Monday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship hosted at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Tartans fell, 4-1, to the Bears to complete the season with a 19-8 record. The Bears moved to 20-3.

Inside the Results

  • The Bears swept doubles action to earn the team point.
  • The Bears took a 2-0 lead with a victory at fifth singles.
  • Freshman Jane Wong was victorious at first singles by a 6-2, 6-2 score. Wong is currently ranked 17th in Division III while her opponent, Eliana Hanna, is ranked fifth.
  • WashU was then able to win at fourth and sixth singles to secure the match.
  • Sophomore Kotistha Modak was unfinished at second singles while sophomore Shelly Zinchenko was in the middle of a third set when the match finished.
