Kanumuri, Wong Win First Round Matches at ITA Cup
(ROME, Ga.) - Carnegie Mellon University freshmen Ika Kanumuri and Jane Wong began play at the ITA Cup on Thursday, October 16 with round of 16 victories before competing in the quarterfinals on Friday, October 17.
Kanumuri won her first round match by a 6-0, 6-2 score against sophomore Karina Elvestrom from Gustavus Adolphus while Wong met sophmore Lucy Nabedrick of Trinity (Texas) University and won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
On Friday, Wong fell 6-2, 6-1 to the number one seed of Babson College senior Matia Cristiani.
Kanumuri drew number two seed sophomore Fiona Lee of MIT in the quarterfinals and won 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals.
Both Wong and Kanumuri will be in action on Saturday, October 18. Kanumuri will run up against sophomore Rebecca Kong of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 9:00 a.m. while Wong will play senior Eliana Hanna of Washington University in St. Louis at 9:00 am. in the consolation semifinals.
