Wong Wins ITA Regionals
(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – Members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished play at the ITA Southeast Regionals hosted by the University of Mary Washington on Monday with freshman Jane Wong was crowned the singles champion.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Shelly Zinchenko and freshman Ika Kanumuri faced off in the semifinals. Kanumuri came out on top 6-2, 6-2, earning her spot in finals.
- Wong advanced to finals through an opponent withdrawal.
- Kanumuri and Wong then went head-to-head in the finals, as Wong came out on top with a straight set victory, 6-1, 6-1.
- Doubles pair Kanumuri and Zinchenko fell 8-4 in semifinals.
Notes
- The win for Wong marks the seventh straight singles championship for the Tartans and the fifth time a first-year Tartan has won the title. Wong joins Ancele Dolensek (2024), Crystal Zhou (2021), Danna Taylor (2018), and Laura Chen (2008) as the first-year Tartans to win the ITA Regional Singles Championship.
